Global Perspective: ASEAN Cooperation Creates A Supply Chain For The Textile And Clothing Industry

Vietnam News Agency: The 48th Council Meeting and 46th Plenary Meeting of the ASEAN Textile Industry Association (AFTEX) in Ho Chi Minh City was held recently in Ho Chi Minh City.

Wu Dejiang, chairman of Vietnam Textile and Clothing Association (VITAS) and the rotating chairman of ASEAN Textile Industry Association from 2021-2022, said that under the background of coexistence of opportunities and challenges in the global market, AFTEX enterprises should continue to establish information channels to introduce the advantages of countries and share mutual support measures to fully tap the advantages of each country.

Wu Dejiang believes that in the future, AFTEX member countries need to cooperate in the construction of the link chain on fiber, textile, dyeing and sewing, and at the same time, hold experience sharing among member countries' enterprises, so as to expand the textile and clothing market of AFTEX Group and assist enterprises in implementing sustainable development and greening plans for the textile and clothing industry.

Representatives of AFTEX member states said that the impact of the outbreak of COVID-19 and the Russia Ukraine conflict has been changing consumption trends and demand, while pushing up logistics costs and fuel prices. These factors are also encouraging consumers and manufacturers to shift from "fast fashion" to "sustainable fashion".

Therefore, the representatives of member states put forward a number of cooperation proposals to build a supply chain for the textile and clothing industry.

During the meeting, Wu Dejiang, chairman of Vietnam Textile and Clothing Association (VITAS), introduced AFTEX The flag of the rotating chairman was transferred to the new rotating chairman, Tan Kim Teck Albert, chairman of the Cambodian Textile, Clothing, Footwear and Tourism Articles Association (TAFTA). Mr. Tan Kim Teck Albert became the rotating chairman of AFTEX. in 2023-2024.
